A personal perspective -
Many years ago I was forced to give two years of my life to people who were convinced, and assured me, that the ANC and most of my countrymen were actually my enemies, and that they will take all that I value from me. Twenty six years after /
/ our democracy there are still some of you telling me that same thing. I understand your fear, I see through the few of you who trade on that pain. I want you to understand that I choose to not see things your way, that I choose not to live like that. I say that even though /
/ like you, I see the many crimes, mistakes, harmful decisions that our government and people in leadership positions make and continue to make. I choose to stand with my country, to work with others of goodwill and those with less commendable motives, so that sometime, /
/ somehow, we get to a better place for all of us. I will not stand with you and break where we must build. There is so much work to do. I respect your views (except the knowingly malicious ones) and I hope that one day we can work together. I count you as my people as much /
/ as I count anyone else here. If you choose to believe that I choose sides against you, you would be wrong. I am choosing principles, options, moral and ethical outcomes as I see them. I know this will be a single pindrop in the increasing storm out there, but it's important /
/ that we are clear on this. I do believe that our government is making a terrible hash of a lot of what is going on, increasingly so, I believe that most of the regulations should be tested in court. But some of these scenarios of how our civil liberties are being /
/ permanently removed, and how we are on the verge of an evil dictatorship taking over is unwarranted. These stories, the types of comments out there - this is the rooi / black gevaar days all over, at a time when we can least afford them. It wasn't true then, it's not true now🙏
