Today is the 6th day of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth so I will use this as a reminder that the median age of onset for children with ADHD is 6 years old. Parents, know the signs and symptoms so that you can get help early. Don’t let them suffer in silence.
Have you heard of persistent depressive disorder? It is a chronic low-level depression that may be longer lasting than major depressive disorder and experienced for 2 years or more. Everyone experiences depression differently. You’re not alone ❤️ #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
According to NIMH, approximately 5% of people with schizophrenia die by suicide, which is higher than the general population. The risk is the highest during early stages. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
With it being #MothersDay weekend, Here’s some facts about postpartum depression - not to be confused with “baby blues”. Did you know PPD can DEVELOP up to ONE YEAR after you give birth? You are NOT a bad mom if you’re experiencing symptoms of PPD. 🤍 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
#HappyMothersDay to all the mommas out there. Please remember, untreated post partum depression CAN become chronic depressive disorder. This goes for FATHERS, too! Please seek help! You and your new baby’s life may depend on it. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Since I forgot yesterday, here are two facts. 1/2 of all mental disorders begin by age 14 and 3/4 by age 24. In the US, in a 1 year period, 14% of adults have one disorder, 6% of adults have two disorders and another 6% of adults have three or more. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) isn’t just for service members - although prevalent. The symptoms must last a month or more AND be severe enough to interfere with relationships or work to be considered PTSD. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Maybe you’ve heard of personality disorders? Did you know that approximately 9% of adults (18+) experience some type of personality disorder. Personality disorders do NOT discriminate based on race or sex. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Brace yourself for this daily fact: there were more than twice as many suicides in the United States as there were homicides in 2017. 💔 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Forgot to post (again) yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️ Anyways, for the rest of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth I am posting warning signs to promote suicide prevention. We throw it around WAY too much (I’m guilty, too) but talking about wanting to die or kill yourself is a MAJOR SIGN. Pay attention.
#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek please don’t forget to check on your friends, BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE. Are they talking about feeling empty, hopeless, or having no reason to live? Have they told you that they feel trapped? PAY ATTENTION to the signs.
Maybe your friends have mentioned that they feel like they’re a burden to you or their family. THIS is a sign. Let them know that they are loved and MAKE TIME to listen to them. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
I know it’s easy to withdraw from your friends and family when you’re in quarantine but STAY TALKING! Distancing yourself from loved ones can lead to suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Don’t let the dark thoughts creep in. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Have you noticed that you or your friends have been acting more annoyed or irritated by the little things? This is a sign that they may be having suicidal thoughts. Before you get offended by their “attitude” try HELPING. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Another one that’s easy to overlook: making life-threatening risks. Maybe you’ve noticed they’ve started to drive erratically or they’re doing dangerous activities on their own. You can REACH OUT. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
Giving away important possessions can sometimes be a sign that someone is contemplating suicide. It’s not too late to check-in with friends. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Having extreme mood swings can be a sign that someone is experiencing suicidal thoughts. They may go from happy to sad or hyper to calm very quickly. This may be a hard one to catch while in quarantine so PAY ATTENTION. Your friends NEED you. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Sending goodbye messages is a key indicator that someone is struggling with suicidal thoughts. This one usually comes at the last possible minute so ACT FAST! Don’t let that be the last message they send you 💚 #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Statistically, family and friends are the first ones to recognize the warning signs. PLEASE do not discount your friend’s cries for help as attention seeking. GIVE THEM YOUR ATTENTION. Help however you can. You could save their life. #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
It is the last day of #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth and I just want to say that all the facts from this thread were from http://NIMH.nih.gov  If you or someone you know is struggling, please call 1-800-273-8255 or text HELLO to 741741 to be connected to someone who can help💚
