May is #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth which celebrates Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.! In 1992, Congress passed Public Law 102-450 which annually designated May as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. (info from: https://asianpacificheritage.gov/about/ )
Normally I'd have a display to celebrate but current circumstances call for something different. Every day in May, I will tweet a book by an Asian/Pacific American author. Most will be from our library collection, some from my personal collection plus a few upcoming titles.
Day 1 of #AsianPacificAmericanHeritageMonth reads: THE BEST AT IT by @MaulikPancholy. This is a delightful middle grade read about a young Indian American boy as he struggles to come into his own. Wonderfully written, hilarious & emotional.

Day 2 of #APAHM reads: FRONT DESK by @kellyyanghk. This was one of my favorite reads of 2019 and I try to recommend to everyone regardless of their age. Mia lives in a motel and finds herself having to keep multiple secrets for the sake of her family.

Day 3 of #APAHM reads: THE DOWNSTAIRS GIRL by @staceyleeauthor. Set in 1890s Atlanta, Jo Kuan works as a lady's maid in Atlanta during the day and a newspaper advice columnist at night. If you're tired of the same old historical fiction, this is for you.

Day 4 of #APAHM reads: THEY CALLED US ENEMY by @GeorgeTakei, @JustinEisinger, @Scott_Duvall & @harmimimi. One of my favorite graphic memoirs. This books recounts Takei's childhood in the Japanese American internment camps during WWII. Very emotional.

Day 5 of #APAHM reads: THE BIRTHDAY GIRL by @MelissadelaCruz. If you're a fan of this author's YA books, you should try this adult mystery/thriller which had a lot of twists that you won't see coming.

Day 6 of #APAHM reads: LING & TING: TWICE AS SILLY by @pacylin. A Ms. Cindy & Teddy pick: Ling and Ting are silly twins who like to tell jokes. Read along with them and you will find yourself laughing as well. A great early reader series!

Day 7 of #APAHM reads: LALANI OF THE DISTANT SEA by @erinentrada. If you're looking for a lush middle grade read with some fantasy and folklore thrown in, this book by the Newbery Medal winning author is perfect for you.

Day 8 of #APAHM reads: BOXERS by @geneluenyang. If you're looking for a different way to learn history, this graphic novel about the Boxer Rebellion is for you. It may be thick, but it reads FAST. Be sure to get the companion volume Saints too.

Day 9 of #APAHM reads: PRAIRIE LOTUS by @LindaSuePark. I devoured the Little House books growing up and always wanted to live the prairie life. Park brings that wish to life with Hanna, a half Asian girl wanting to fit in a small town in 1880s America.

Day 10 of #APAHM reads: CHASING SHADOWS by @SwatiAvasthi. If you can't decide between a novel or a graphic novel, why not grab a book that is both? Throw in elements of grief and friendship for a pageturner you can't put down.
