"Writer Sujatha, who became a father figure to me during the film, helped shape the character as well. We presented two different points of view in the female leads — while Tabu accepts destiny, Aishwarya wants to seek out her own choices."
Kandukondain Kandukondain is love.
Kandukondain Kandukondain is love.
How Feudal families submitted themselves to apprehensions, and how it affects even the rather self-esteemed, independent woman. Sowmya is not just elegance, and delicacy, but also represents power. I love the way the character is inscribed. And Tabu is life.

Ajith-Tabu& #39;s scenes are cutest. I strongly feel Rajiv& #39;s romance would& #39;ve made almost another school like Maniratnam-esque, I tell you!
Major Bala& #39;s angst of their sacrifices and courage are being disregarded unapologetically by society, and the administration. Mammootty is paramount af. It& #39;s nothing new, tho!
The lead scene for the song!!

"We had greenery and blue for Aishwarya, we wanted to contrast it with red and brown for Tabu. I had already shot the first line of the ‘Santhana Thendralai’ song in Karaikudi with a train in the backdrop, so I wanted to shoot the rest with a railway track in a hot, arid desert".
"To shoot the title song, I needed an exotic location because the girl (Aishwarya Rai) was living in a fantasy world. I wanted to shoot in a castle, but something that could be composed in one shot. We zeroed in on Eilean Donan castle in Scotland." - Rajiv Menon.
Look at the nuance where Rajiv Menon uses the close shot of Tabu at the end of the scene (where the lawyer reads the will), to manifest again how is she is seen as an unfortunate girl even by her family. It only crumbles her hope and faith further.
This scene depicts Feminism to me. Like many films that claim to be feministic narratives, I strongly believe, Kandukonden Kandukondein does justice to the term even without claiming as one. Jane Austen has a share, I agree. Rahman& #39;s score in the scene has extolled the emotions.
A glimpse of the matriarchial society.

Another beautiful scene where Manohar praises Sowmya& #39;s optimism and faith. Such pure, classic romances are a delight, I swear.
We looked for a couple of actors to play the role of Manohar, the struggling filmmaker. The name of Ajith came up, and I was told that he was injured and recuperating. I visited him at the hospital and narrated the script to him when he was in bed. He then came on board. - Rajiv.
The idealism.

Again, with the vocals, music, and shot-composition, Rajiv Menon proves that he is a great dramatist.

Mammootty aka Powerhouse of Talent.
And, what an ending to the selfless affection of Major Bala.
I just love this scene.

I just love this scene.
With all the characters being rather idealistic, I find the only character in the film which is devoid of flaws is Major Bala (played Mammootty). His empathy, judgment, selflessness, Waah. Waah.

Actually, delicate human emotions make a great drama. If you observe Sowmya doesn& #39;t choose the title which is misunderstood by Manohar. And this eventually becomes the nucleus of the differences.
This is classic literature, patrons. Just Saying.
