📢Vaguely interesting but very 'educational' thread about openings lyrics to a Britpop anthem 📢

So out of boredom I googled the lyrics to Love is the law sung by @ChrisHelme
Hmmm dogfish egg case...seems very specific I thought...not a phrase I'd ever heard before despite singing it hundreds of times...I wonder if that's an actual thing....after all 'blind cobblers thumbs" is slang, so I was curious about that opening line..
So...Google told me that dogfish were a thing. Unsurprisingly an aquatic thing, in keeping with seahorses I guess...but didn't immediately answer the second part of my query..the egg case.. So another Google search was required..
more detailed search brought up results for dogfish egg case Consistent with my previous search showing that dogfish do protect their eggs with a casing
made sense apart from the fact that the lyric "we (the band) lived in a "aquatic protctive sack" made no sense, but then I saw
At the bottom.of the search results mention made to mermaids purse, a phrase that vaguely rang bells and so my research continued (yes, research, I am now a music researcher...) What is this mermaids purse they speak of, will this shine a light on my quest...
So mermaids purse is another term do egg case. Again. this made sense but not within the contextof the song lyrics of the much loved number 2 debut single ....So, going by the use of the "cobblers thumb" slang I then wondered if this was somehow similar.....
I then googled 'mermaids purse slang' and had success.....
And this is what I found.
My conclusions being:
1: the lyrics are complete nonsense
2: I need to find a new hobby
