Gintama Appreciation Thread (Very long, minor spoilers ahead, you& #39;ve been warned)
First of all I& #39;ll just get straight to the point: Gintama is my favourite series & without a doubt 10/10 to me, I recommend it to everybody reading this & I hope that you enjoy reading this Thread and, if you haven& #39;t already, enjoy experiencing Gintama
The characters are amazing, it has the best cast Ive ever seen, that is because Sorachi created a world where you& #39;ll geniune care about nearly every character in it, the Story structure of Gintama allowes for such a thing to happen, because it& #39;s a mixture of comedic light-hearted
episodes which (probably) will make you laugh and serious well constructed & intense emotional serious Arcs, that mixture makes the characters feel a lot closer, because while watching the show, you feel like you& #39;re going with them through all the things which happen
Its this dualistic nature of Gintama which makes it so special and unique to me, not only go the situations our characters are put in from super funny & happy to life or death (and everything in between), but the characters & the cast itself is written in a very balanced way
Gintoki is obviously the best example for this as he& #39;s the most balanced character in the series, he& #39;s been through a lot, losing everything dear to him at some point in his life under such unfortunate & tragic circumstances and carrying the burden to live & move on from all
the shit he& #39;s been through is an extremely serious, sad & tragic aspect to him, but at the same time you& #39;ll see him goof around and do nothing but bullshit to have a fun time with the people close & dear to him, which makes him feel very natural, he doesn& #39;t have a goal he wants
to achive and he doesn& #39;t have unbreakable determination to achive that goal, he& #39;s just a person who goes over his life and tries to protect the people which he loves & the happiness of him & said people, he tries to protect his very soul, which makes him incrediblely relateable
because we all just want the things dear to us to be protected and to have a good ass time. Other characters like Kagura, Shinpachi, Hijikata and a lot more are constructed in a very similar way, where they can be funny af while being on screen and doing bullshit but also serious
and make you feel emotional af, the series as a whole feels very organic because of this dualistic dynamic, it can do whatever it wants and it wont feel out of place, they can literally make jokes about dicks at one point and four episodes later you& #39;ll witness one of, if not
, if not the best fight in Anime history, basically what Im trying to say: Gintama is unique, because of its nature, its comedic fun & emotional seriousness and everything inbetween (semi-serious Arcs), now that Ive talked about how the characters are constructed, I gotta say:
This is not the only thing which makes nearly all characters, well, good characters, they& #39;re also well developted, thematically rich, unique, realistic & overall well used characters, nobody feels unnecessary or useless and they all get their shine & moments, even very minor
characters can be incredible in a lot of instances
What I also love about the characters is that a lot of them contrast or parallel each other, parallelism is one of my favourite ways to better establish and explore dynamics between two(+) characters and just to rise my enjoyment

and Gintama excelled at this, the dynamic between characters like Takasugi & Gintoki or Gintoki & Hijikata are so well fleshed out that I enjoy and am genuinely amazed whenever they interact with each other, but other relationships like the one between Kagura & Sougo are just as
entertaining to watch & bring a lot of balance to the tone & pace of the series (applies to Gin/Sugi & Gin/Hiji as well, or to Katsura & Shigeshige and a lot of more relationships & dynamics), so Ive been talking a lot about the Main Cast and why they& #39;re amazing, but most
Antagonists of the series are just as amazing, it actually has my second favourite cast of Antagonists later on (only second to HxH), the Antagonists are great because they also feel very natural and human, they also arent presented as if they would be in the wrong all the time
they just have different goals, ideologies and their own battle to fight, which makes a lot of sense considering the circumstances the crazy world of Gintama, they often perfectly function as a great foil for our Main Characters (and vice versa), which makes them amazing
Most of this may sound not so special on the surface but I, and a lot of other Fans, guarantee that its something only unique to Gintama, at least to the extent Gintama goes with it
I think Ive talked enough about the series characters & its structure, Gintamas themes however are vast and its thematically one of the best series Ive ever seen, but at its core its a series about moving forward and valuing your life & the connections youve made along your way
in a proper way, but like I said, this is only one of a lot, A LOT, of themes Gintama tries to explore, Hope, Fate, Emotional Vulnerability, Family, Death & how to deal with it, Happiness, Love, Home, Redemption, fuck even what your Gender is is a theme in some Arcs
Gintoki is the embodiment of the series& #39; Main theme tho, I wont spoil his past but he& #39;s been through the most, and yet, despite all that, he moves on and because of that gains new meaning in life through-out the series, he& #39;s admireable for that, it& #39;s the biggest reason why he& #39;s
my favourite character ever, and Takasugi contrasts him in a perfect way, thats why he& #39;s my second favourite character ever, but thats another topic, another aspect which I haven& #39;t mentioned directly yet I love is that Gintama can tell every Story it wants and it& #39;ll feel fine
It made me feel emotions I cant put properly into words, it made me laugh & cry so many times, more so than any other series ever could, that& #39;s why it& #39;s my favourite, my enjoyment of it was also very consistent, there weren& #39;t even 5+ Episodes which I didn& #39;t enjoy, which is really
