Africans were taken to America as slaves, one of the British colonies in the 1600s. They were beaten, denied basic human rights, subjected to unpaid hard labour and tortured by caucasians.

They continued to live in these conditions to late 1800s though the US officially ended salvery in 1865 with the 13th amendment. By 1900s there were very few slaves but even the free were not that free because of segregation.

During the first world war and the period thereabout, many blacks migrated to the parts of America that were predominantly white because of the job opportunities and the freedom that was available. This was not good news to the whites.

We will not discuss the segregation in the army, but the blacks seting in New york in large numbers significantly disturbed the whites. The administrations came up with systems of segregation and apartheid.

Not New york alone but other predominantly white states. Activists such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther K Jnr and the rest ignited civil disobedience and also the existance of armed groups like Black Panthers forced the administrations to abolish apartheid.

The Whites who were used to all good stuff; good neighbourhoods, schools, hospitals, best seats in buses had no option left. They had to share. The neighborhoods which had no blacks now could see many moving around. It frustrated them.

This was in the mid 20th century. Now, with all legal frameworks and policies being close to neutral the police force was still majorly comprised of caucasians. These individuals in the force chipped in as the white mans’ saviour.

They started attacking black civilians without cause. This was meant to intimidate them while pritecting the white mans space and retaining a position of power and dominance. The “system” protected the police and the behaviour took root.

Criminology theories were created that claimed blacks are more prone to commit crime than whites and they are still taught in police academies in the US. There is a culture in the working police force of handling white suspects well as opposed to blacks.

Police who injure or even kill innocent blacks are rarely punished and this motivates the rest to continue with the behavior. Black police have also conformed to fit in. The court systems are also faulty. The plea bargaining works against blacks,

The juries are mainly composed of whites, blacks are denied jury service, blacks are more lickely to be convicted and sentenced linger terms though equally likely to offend as their white counterparts. If convicted they are more lickely to serve more.

They are less likely to be assigned public attorneys and so much more. When I say the American CJS is broken I mean it. There is so much more that cannot be stated here but much should be done if blacks in the US are to survive.
