Looks like we're going to avoid significant flooding along Lake Ontario's southern shoreline this year. @IJCsharedwaters reports the water level will peak well below the highs we saw in 2017 and 2019. 1/4
The Lake Ontario-St. Lawrence River Board (part of the IJC) breached #Plan2014's limits to increase outflows - a move made possible by moderate weather and lower water levels downstream (thanks Ottawa River!). 2/4
What's interesting is the lakes that feed into Ontario have had notably high water levels and Ontario's sat well above normal throughout the winter. In other words, the threat was there, but Mother Nature and the IJC's flexibility improved conditions dramatically. 3/4
My guess is while some from our region will continue to push for the scrapping of #Plan2014, the IJC and various other governmental bodies will encourage investment in shoreline protection and action plans to combat future high and LOW water levels. 4/4
