NSG’s CTTF (Counter-Terror Taskforce) is based in Delhi and is the primary pan-India CT response unit. The CTTF is fully self contained made up primarily of 51 SAG assault teams (with K9s) but also has attached units of EOD (Bomb disposal), a command group and support staff
After 26/11 NSG created “hubs” in 4 major cities (Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai). These hubs are home of Special Composite Groups (SCGs), as name suggests- composites of 51 SAG teams and SRG teams re-tasked and trained for CT role
Each hub has an area of responsibility that extends across multiple states. During “peacetime” they are actively involved in training with local police, conducting “red team” assessments and mock drills.
The Hubs have ready teams that will be the NSG’s first response to any terrorist crisis, these teams will travel by road or air depending on where the attack is within their area of responsibility
CTTF is alerted and airlifted to any terrorist crisis that exists within India however considering the vastness of India the hubs were formulated so as to have a quicker NSG response before CTTF is on location
26 SCG is based in Mumbai

Previously SCGs had to make do with some older generations of equipment as compared to the Delhi based CTTF but this has largely been addressed and in fact the autonomy of the hubs has allowed for them to now seek even superior equipment
29 SCG is based in Kolkata
The other SCGs are

27 (Chennai)
28 (Hyderabad)

And the recently created 30 SCG being deployed to the NSG’s newest hub in Gandhinagar (Hub 5) to cover Western India
52 SAG is the dedicated anti-Hijack wing of the NSG. 52 maintains a full time hijack response cell 24/7 co-located with aviation assets. The cell has EOD (BDS), assaulters, snipers as well as trained negotiators.

52 SAG is also responsible for all Air Marshal duties
In addition to the SCGs in the hubs and CTTF in Delhi, the NSG forward deploys teams based on specific intel assessments, threat perceptions or state govt requests. One such deployment is to the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir
The NSG is also the nodal unit responsible for technical Post Blast Investigation (PBI) and sends teams out for any such investigation anywhere in India. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) of the NSG maintains National Bomb Data Centre ( NBDC)
