“I have no planets in this house, does this mean that part of life is irrelevant for me?”

No. If you have no planets in a house, it doesn’t matter: you should always look to the Lord of that House.

[THREAD]
The lord of a house will give a lot of information as to what happens with that house. In fact, think of the lord of a house as a significator for that house. Whatever happens to that planet, will effect whats going on with that house.
Planets in a house merely link two house themes together, and describe whats happening in the house, not so much what the planet is doing. While the focus on Astrology is planets, I would say in chart interpretation, it revolves around the houses.
Lets look at an example:

The 5th house (kids, livelihood, creative expression) is in Sagittarius, with no planets residing there. This doesn’t mean the individual won’t have children: we need to look to the ruler.

Jupiter rules Sag, and Jupiter is in the 6th in Capricorn.
Jupiter is now the Lord of the 5th, and acts as a significator for anything happening with the 5th house. Because its in the 6th, it now intertwines 2 areas of life: 5th house themes and 6th house themes (physical illness and affliction).
Just a quick thread to show the importance of house rulers and how it doesn’t matter if a planet isn’t in that house: there will always be a planet ruling that house and acting as a significator for the topics in that house.
