MYTHS vs. FACTS of sexual harassment:

Myth: men cannot be sexually harassed/assaulted.
Fact: 1 in 20 men and 1 in 5 women experience sexual assault violence sometime in their life.
Myth: women/men wearing revealing clothes are at fault.
Fact: women/men dress to feel confident, comfortable, and attractive; perpetrators are RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS.
Myth: A man cannot me sexually assaulted by a woman.
Fact: Although, men are usually assaulted by men, some are assaulted by women.
Myth: if a man experience erection & ejaculation then he must have wanted and enjoyed the sex.
Fact: No. Erection & ejaculation are normal bodily responses to physical stimulus. Nothing to do with how the person feels towards the assault.
Myth: Most sexual harassments/assaults are committed by strangers.
Fact: 8/10 victims of sexual assaults ate assaulted by someone they know.
Myth: men sexually harass other s bcs they’re sexually frustrated/can’t control themselves.
Fact: the majority of sexual assaults are well planned.
Myth: if a person did not scream/fight/ had no injury, it couldn’t have been a sexual assault.
Fact: they FREEZE, PARALYZED with FEAR.
Myth: ‘No’ sometimes mean ‘yes’ — people just play hard to get.
Fact: NO MEANS NO.
Myth: children who are sexually abused grow up to be abusers.
Fact: the majority of children who have been sexually abused did not grow up to be abusers.
Myth: it is a man’s right yo have sex w/ his wife whenever he wants.
Fact: forcing ANY WOMAN to have sex or to perform any sexual acts when she doesn’t want to is SEXUAL ASSAULT.
Myth: men who were sexually assaulted by men become homosexuals.
Fact: sexual orientation is not affected/influenced by sexual assault.
