The "Reopen Texas" guidelines are foolish and hazardous on their very face. They're also a chickenshit way for property owners to shaft theaters, bars and restaurants. "You had every opportunity to open, so pay us our full rent. Now." /1
There's a level of occupancy that every venue owner has to stay viable, at staffing levels commensurate with ensuring proper service. 25 percent ain't it. /2
This also explains why the full "Shelter-in-place" order was never issued in the first place. It gives shelter to insurance companies to not pay out damages for holders who have robust language in their policies. /3
Added together, it's even more fuel in the fire against the service industry, and will make matters even worse for unemployment and workers who are "one crisis away" from disaster. /4
