🧵 Thread w/r/t the joint motion to review pretrial detainees for release from which AG Fitch withdrew her support. 1/ https://twitter.com/JxnFreePress/status/1254515640163016705
1⃣ Chief Justice Randolph denied the motion for local judges to review all pretrial detainees for release weekly, but he ordered local judges to review all pretrial detainees for release by May 7.

The order rejects Fitch's new position w/r/t COVID-19.

2⃣ Either (a) the Coast judged lied to Chief Justice Randolph when they said the local public defenders agreed that Randolph should not order the judges to review pretrial detainees for release or (b) the public defenders argued against their clients. 3/ https://twitter.com/jallen1985/status/1252110320878878732
3⃣ I wonder whether Judge Howard agrees with Chief Justice Randolph's description of his response as saying that Judge Howard was "largely opposed" to the joint motion.

(Hint: Howard disagrees with Randolph's description of him, but Howard won't say so.) 4/
4⃣ I hope coverage of Randolph's order will include comments from @JessicaJackson and @notnotalawyer. This appears to be a win for them.

Correction: This is a win for Ms. Massey's clients. For Ms. Massey, it's a big new stack of uncompensated work. 5/
5⃣ Get your popcorn ready to watch the Coast judges, Judge Loper, and Judge Williamson review all pretrial detainees for release—a task they told Chief Justice Randolph would not be feasible.

6⃣ @InTheDarkAPM fans will explode when they hear about Loper's involvement in this. 6/
