Guys. So there was one point where the only Sinhala sentence I knew how to say was "Mata Sinhala Dannae".

We were at a Bots-Lankan function once and this (Bhuddhist) Aunty who hadn't seen me in so many years grabbed me, stared at my face and said "Harima Lassanai!"

BEST BELIEVE I replied with "Mata Sinhala Dannae" 😭 I'm so embarrassed now that I'm thinking about it and I actually know what it means.
She laughed and asked, "Do you remember me?" I told her I did and it was nice to see her after so long (knew her when I was 7 or something). My mom stepped in after and they were talking about me in Sinhala.
