Muzan as a character was highly misunderstood including by "fans" of the series and it really baffles me how he& #39;s considered to have not done his job. Although I agree on his power set being lackluster, as a character he did his job as the final villain. Let me explain
The first time we hear of Muzan we hear that he& #39;s a ruthless evil that is the cause of Demons. And his first appearance is him pretending to be a human. Hiding amongst the crowd and disguising his true nature. Despite all the evil he has done he is attempting to live normally
He has a fake family. No one is aware of what he has done other than Tanjiro. He has purposefully hidden his identity so that he can be human. However Tanjiros earring causes Muzan to feel fear. The first emotion we see from Muzan is fear. He summons to demons to kill Tanjiro
Rather than going to deal with Tanjiro, the cause of his fear instead, he sends two other demons to do the job instead and reminisces in the memory of Yoriichi. The man who almost ended his life. The human that he deemed as a greater monster than himself
Tamayo, one of the demons who have known Muzan the longest begins to tell everyone of the type of being he is. Muzan was selfish and lonely, a coward who was afraid of anything. An immature child who wanted to stay alive despite the cost. He was willing to ruin other lives
As we have learned from the Mist Moon, and the way his curse killed Susamaru, his power is of manipulation. He was disappointed in the lower moons for not being a good enough shield to protect him, so instead of thinking logically and using them to stall the Demon Slayers
He kills them. Because he is afraid of the Demon Slayers ending his legacy before he can live forever. He manipulates strong people who could be a threat to him, or he uses weak people to his advantage by exposing the weakness in their personality and heart
Then as we begin to land the a story of Muzan, he was afraid of dying before twenty, so much that when he got a special medicine, he killed the doctor out of anger and fear from the thought of dying. But then he realizes it worked. His impulsive personality caused his downfall
As we soon realize the only reason he was not immortal was because the doctor did not finish the medicine. Now Muzan had to fear the sun itself. Something responsible for the life on the planet. To normal people, he wouldn& #39;t even be considered a living thing.
Muzans first encounter with Yoriichi, he expresses arrogance as he believes he is truly better than all creatures. He expresses this before the battle, but with Yorrichis ability, he easily overwhelms him. We also get a hint at Muzans blood demon art. Which is having multiple
Vital Organs. To keep himself alive rather than offense. But Muzan after almost losing his life to this demon Slayer. He shows his cowardice once again by hiding until the man would eventually pass away rather than fight him. He even goes to turn his brother into a demon
Into a demon, someone with similar strength, to try and kill the man he was so afraid of, rather than attempting it himself. We see how much this fear and selfishness overtake him by how his cells corrupt the demons he creates with his own sense of fear
As we see when Tanjiro fights Daki, his body begins to resemble Yoriichi, as he begins to use the forms of the Sun Breathing, causing Daki to feel the same fear Muzan felt when fighting him.
Muzan throughout the final battle reminisces about the fact that both Yorichi and Tanjiro are both the real monsters. And cannot fathom how they would go so far to save others rather than attempt to preserve their own life, which ties into another aspect of his personality
Muzan believes that every other human is as selfish and fearful as he is. Seeing people be self sacrificing is something he fears the most. Each one of the demons he takes especially the upper moons and Rui, all have a selfish desire they wish to achieve in order to become demons
Muzans fear and immaturity is represented through his last stand of survival, becoming bigger in order to try and slow down the sunlight from damaging his organs. He wanted to live forever to become better than everyone, because of his fear of death and perishing
His fear of perishing is so powerful he is willing to pass on his legacy to someone else, in order to at least keep himself alive in some form. He is desperate the entire time to find a way of living, he even attempted to live through somebody else
