What happened to Crystal Castles? A thread:

*DISCLAIMER: You should always give the benefit of the doubt to victims of abuse. That being said, this thread is meant to provide veridical info on the CC vs. AG situation for fans to have an informed stance on the subject.
Context is needed to understand the reasoning behind this thread:

Crystal Castles is a Canadian electronic music project created in ’03 by songwriter and producer Ethan Kath. After releasing hit tracks “Untrust Us” & “Magic Spells” on Myspace, he recruited Alice Glass in '06.
AG then became the poetic lyricist/vocalist known for chaotic live performances while EK was the producer behind the band’s innovative and unique sound design.

CC’s debut LP from 2008 garnered massive success and consisted of 16 songs, where AG was featured on 6.
*CC’s complex lyrics are known for addressing the pariahs of the world and themes of social (in)justice, one of the reasons why the band gained a cult following as the project evolved and matured over the years.

CC released 3 critically acclaimed albums from 2008 to 2012.
On the early morning of October 8, 2014 AG suddenly revealed she was leaving CC. With the announcement of her departure she also implied it would mean the end of the band.
The surprising news of CC’s breakup were unfortunate, but fans were excited to support AG in what would be a promising solo career.

However, on April 16, 2015 CC shockingly released a new track featuring a new vocalist. The band would continue without AG.
On July 17, 2015 AG released her debut solo single produced by boyfriend and former HEALTH member Jupiter Keyes titled “Stillbirth”.

To fans dismay, the lyrics of the track were a far cry from AG’s work as a songwriter in CC, while being reminiscent of HEALTH’s sound as well.
After revealing CC’s new lead vocalist: Edith Frances, the band released their 4th LP titled “Amnesty (I)” on August 19, 2016. The band donated their proceeds from the album to Amnesty Int.

Following critical and fan acclaim, CC embarked on a successful year+ long world tour.
2 years after the release of “Stillbirth”, AG released her debut EP on August 18, 2017. Continuing the sound of her debut single, the EP earned mixed reactions.

An AG solo fall tour was later announced to promote the EP, marking her first as a solo act. *see notes below
Upon her first show as a solo performer on September 14, 2017, footage of her lip-syncing to a vocal backing track on multiple songs of her repertoire surfaced online, earning backlash from fans and members of the electro-punk scene alike:
Amongst the tracks that were lip-synced for the remainder of the tour was CC's "Celestica", one of the songs from the band she previously stated she had no further interest in being associated with. *as shown on the 5th tweet of this thread
At this point, it’s relevant to mention that October of 2017 would be the first time where both CC and AG would tour at the same time in the same state since her departure from the band. *Ex: AG in San Diego on 10/24, CC in San Diego on 10/25 at the same venue.
On the early morning of the day that CC would begin their fall tour parallel to AG's (October 24, 2017), AG published a statement accusing EK of abusing, beating and raping her during her time in the band.

The post quickly spread online, and CC's tour was subsequently cancelled.
The following day EK denied AG's accusations via his attorney, accompanied by another statement posted on CC's social media on November 3, 2017.

This would be the prelude to the only known case of the #MeTooMovement where a counter defamation lawsuit would ensue.
Marking the beginning of long legal battle, AG was served with court summons from EK on November 19, 2017.

The lawsuit included defamation, false light, breach of contract, tortious interference with contractual relations and prospective economic benefit, and conspiracy.
Documenting the entirety of the legal battle on a twitter thread is impossible, so you can find the court documents to read for yourself in the link attached below instead: https://pastebin.com/jFtWTXqY
These are some examples of the evidence submitted for the case:
As EK’s lawsuit against AG reached its end on February of 2018, AG posted on twitter that she won in court, which was false.

The statement was misleading in nature, as the lawsuit was not won nor lost, but dismissed because EK’s attorney failed to submit evidence in time.
Since the lawsuit was dismissed, Edith France’s career as an emerging frontwoman was abruptly put on halt because of the allegations made against EK, and CC have remained radio silent.

Almost 6 years since her departure from CC, AG has yet to release a debut solo album.
