I respect everyone's concern for the health and wellbeing of the campus community, but it's pretty easy to say "OBVIOUSLY universities can't reopen in the fall!" when you have tenure at one that isn't facing a choice like "Either we reopen in the fall or we're out of business."
I'm not advocating reopening or not reopening, but maybe the decision people are being asked to make in a total vacuum of guidance is difficult, and not as slam-dunk easy as it seems to you at Georgetown or whatever.
Even if your own job isn’t at risk, guess where the cuts will land if your institution doesn’t open? Non-ac Staff. Student hourlies. Contingent faculty. You know, people like that.
