Many times I've been asked by idiots in the UK why I should care about the UK, given I chose to live in France. I've been called a traitor too. There are many reasons, but here are a few, just for the feeble minded at the back.

1. My kids. 2 out of 3 now live in the UK.
2. My grandkids. 3 (soon to be 4) live in the UK.
So I worry about them. You never lose that, no matter how old they get. Mine are 33 and 28. Currently, they're confined, and obeying the rules. Many aren't, putting them in danger.

3. My elderly disabled mother in law.
89 years old. We're sole carers, she lives with us. Decisions made by these charlatans in the UK affect her directly. Her pensions, her transferable benefits, her well being. We worry about her too.

The UK government à few years ago, decided to stop her winter fuel allowance. Why? Because they decided to lump all of France's territories together and take an average of their temperatures. This included places in the Caribbean and the antipodes among others.

That median temperature was above that of summer in Edinburgh so she no longer qualified. Despite temperatures here in winter reaching as low as minus 20! Yes, that really happened, folks. Usually hangs around zero, so it's still nippy. But no fuel allowance. Nice one.

4. Financial implications. You know, such as pension freezes. Shorting the £ so that rich hedge fund managers get richer. Exchange rate fluctuations due to bad/stupid decisions. These all impact on my MIL and her life. Ergo, they impact on ours too.

Many British have private pensions and/or investments in the UK. Some may still have homes or businesses there. They may be wealth creators from afar. They may even pay their taxes there.

It's doubtful in our own circumstances, but it's possible, that one day we may want to return to live in the UK. Therefore we care about the curation of it during our absence. That it's being destroyed from within is alarming to many of us.

So. There you are. Personally, I don't believe for a second that you have to live in a country to care about it. That may just be me. But just for the xénophobes and sheep out there, I dedicate this thread to you.
