This “I’d rather be dead than poor” attitude really makes you wonder how legitimately homeless, hungry people feel about your current level of poverty, tweeting from your warm home, making signs with materials you could purchase, demanding your right to fancy coffee.
“I’d rather die of COVID than have gray roots.“

“Take my life but don’t take my ability to sit in Starbucks for 3.5 hours, despite only ordering one coffee.”
“I haven’t been genuinely hungry since this all started but I can’t sit in a restaurant and spend more on one meal then some people make in a day. I’m suffering!”
“Sure, I can get take out or delivery from almost anywhere I’m craving but I need to sit inside! You don’t understand! Who cares about human life when I need to SIT INSIDE?!”
People think I’m a huge bitch for my stance on COVID & social distancing but if I care about people I don’t even know getting sick or dying and you don’t, well, one of us is a much bigger asshole.
Our essential workers are NOT soldiers. None of them signed up to go to work every day and risk DEATH to sell you coffee, ring in your groceries, bag your burgers, etc. They are regular people working damn hard in a high risk environment, often for less than their worth.
And our hospital staff? I’m a paramedic and I don’t know any paramedics, nurses, doctors, care attendants, housekeepers, etc who said before COVID, “I could die at work today but that is my solemn duty. These people wanted burgers. Not their fault they gave me a dangerous virus.”
Every essential worker out there is valuable. And not just because they’re providing a much needed service but because they are HUMAN BEINGS, with love and life that exists beyond their professions. They’re important. Their lives are important. We need to keep them safe.
Social distancing is working. It’s damn hard, no argument. Life has changed, the world is different. But anyone reading this is alive to feel those feelings. We can work together. Keep each other safe. And when we get through this (and we will) we can celebrate together.
