1)But need to ask a fundamental question. Why is the U.S military so interested in our neighboring countries? The U.S had refused to comment about another troop deployment to Chad, denying it until the unfortunate incident that saw 4 soldiers killed, blowing open the lid.
(2)The idea of U.S presence was to turn the region a into a bulwark of stability. $2.6 billion later the region is anything but stable. Still the U.S has continued to mentor Chad’s military, and in return, that nation has lent its muscle to support U.S interests in the region.
(3)Chad helped overthrow the Central African Republic’s president in early 2013 and later aided in the 2014 ouster of the rebel leader who deposed him, Chad’s peacekeeping forces were accused of stoking sectarian strife by supporting Muslim militias against Christian fighters.
(4) March 2014 a Chadian military convoy arrived in a crowded marketplace in the capital, Bangui. There the troops “reportedly opened fire on the population without any provocation. As panic-stricken people fled in all directions, the soldiers continued firing indiscriminately.”
(5)In all 30 civilians were killed and more than 300 were wounded. Amid criticism, Chad angrily announced it was withdrawing its troops. “Despite the sacrifices we have made, Chad and Chadians have been targeted in a malicious campaign that blamed them for all the suffering”
(6)EXACTLY from the same playbook they've used on Nigeria in relation to Boko Haram.
(7)In May, despite this gross human rights violation the United States sent 86 personnel to Chad to operate drones and conduct surveillance to aid efforts against Boko Haram in Nigeria the same week Obama blocked the sale of helicopters to Nigeria citing human rights concerns.
(8)...we gotta remember the torpedoing of Nigeria's attempt to buy arms from Israel and South Africa and the scam ceasefire deal set the war efforts by as much as a year and contributed immensely to the defeat of the Jonathan administration
(9)Before U.S Congress Obama said the U.S continues to help Nigeria address the threat posed by Boko Haram yet the military aid and ISR efforts all went to Chad, not Nigeria. The refusal to share intel with Nigeria was blamed on the usual ''corruption''
(10) In the months since the Chadian army massacre in Bangui, various US military contract solicitations and related documents have pointed toward an even more substantive American presence in Chad, the country that just massacred innocent civilians in a market place unprovoked.
(11)In late September 2014, the Army put out a call for bids to sustain American personnel for six months at those “base camp facilities” located near N’Djamena. Supporting documents specifically mention 135 US personnel and detail the services needed to run an austere outpost:
(13) At this time reports of US military activities in Chad. Nor confirm or deny the continued presence of the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance liaison team deployed to Chad in 2013. To quote them verbatim :
(14)“We cannot discuss ISR activities or the locations and durations of operational deployments,'' But If an ISR team is still present in Chad, this would represent a substantive long-term deployment despite the lack of formal US base.
(15) This increased US interest in Chad follows on the heels of a push by France, the nation’s former colonial overlord and America’s current premier proxy in Africa, to beef up its military footprint on the continent.
(16) In July, following US-backed French military interventions in Mali and the Central African Republic, French President François Hollande announced a new mission, Operation Barkhane.
(17) Its purpose: a long-term counterterrorism operation involving 3,000 French troops deployed to a special forces outpost in Burkina Faso and forward operating bases in Mali, Niger and, not surprisingly, Chad. Do you see how gradually the occupation was taken place?
(17) This wasnt some reaction to random events, neither was this an act of charity or goodwill. This was a well planned and executed. To Quote Holland vernatim :
(18) “There are plenty of threats in all directions,” Hollande told French soldiers in Chad, citing militants in Liby & Nigeria “Rather than having large bases that are difficult to manage in moments of crisis, we prefer installations that can be used quickly and efficiently.”
(19) Shortly afterward, Obama approved millions in military aid for French operations in Mali, Niger and Chad,to contribute to the battle against Boko Haram. Our Commonwealth ally and colonial master Britain offered no assistance. ECOWAS in itself showed how useless it is was
(20) Over the 5 years, US staging areas, mini-bases and outposts have popped up in the contiguous nations of Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad, in the Central African Republic, followed by South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
(21) Sometimes its really hard to believe this is real. Its incredibly bewildering what has taken place and all the more stunning no one is saying..wait a minute, whats going on?
(22) Even without a base, the U.S and France has for more than a decade poured copious amounts of money, time, equipment and effort into making Chad a stable regional power, strong enough to hold its own against the Nigerian military.
(23)With Chad, the U.S and France finds it beneficial to be deeply involved with authoritarian governments and another atrocity-prone proxy force to pursue their own interest with little recourse to the suffering of people affected by instability their actions are creating
(24)No one is talking about an end to terror and a focus on res]construction. No one is talking about economic development or helping with infrastructure. The focus is on war, violence, proxies, defence cooperation, building more bases, fighting for dominance. Not schools
(24) not roads, not economic aid and assistance, not stability, not the level of peace they enjoy in their first world societies. The focus is on outsmarting each other to build military bases. 20 years of strife, untold suffering, stunted growth..entire generations wasted
