The provision of single-sex spaces like women& #39;s shelters & changing rooms was placed under threat because @stonewalluk, led then by Ruth Hunt, decided in 2014/15 that the rights of males who & #39;identify& #39; as women supersede the rights of actual women.
Stonewall lobbies government with huge skill and success. Various key figures (incl Nicky Morgan, Maria Miller & Penny Mordaunt) were persuaded by Hunt that Stonewall& #39;s version of trans rights was the next vital equality frontier.
The Conservative government wanted to trailblaze on the next equality issue - and not trail behind, as they& #39;ve usually done on LGBT issues. So they went full throttle at plans to reform the GRA in line with Stonewall& #39;s views: self-ID and removal of single sex provisions from EA.
. @stonewalluk& #39;s decision to attack women& #39;s rights was the moment this once valuable organisations took a terrible, mistaken turn. Its legacy of important work has been tainted by its arrogant disdain for women who value & need the single-sex protections afforded by the EA.
I support this new campaign by @MForstater to encourage to @trussliz to follow through on her support for single-sex protections. https://a-question-of-consent.net"> https://a-question-of-consent.net
It& #39;s also important that pressure continues to be put on @stonewalluk to step back from its anti-women policy positions.

. @Womans_Place_UK has collated evidence of the attempts made to remove single-sex protections from the Equality Act: https://womansplaceuk.org/references-to-removal-of-single-sex-exemptions/">https://womansplaceuk.org/reference...
