#AFRICOM releases 1st quarterly #civcas report -- in email w/ report Commander says, there's no "secret air or shadow war" and "we publically announce every single airstrike we conduct? " -- this is not true. AFRICOM does not declare all strikes. Also you spelled publicly wrong.
AFRICOM declares MOST (not ALL) strikes. The policy of how strikes are reported - as told to me on the record by Pentagon spox - is called "response to query" -- there are some strikes they do NOT declare but will admit if you bring them the exact date and/or location.
I know this because I uncovered strikes that they did not report but admitted to upon email. Here's the example: https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/somalia-secret-air-campaign/
To be clear, it does seem like they report the majority of the strikes publicly - but saying you report them ALL is not true, it misleads the public - and that language matters to people losing their relatives in unreported strikes.
