2/ Report has been an area of interest & scholarship for me for the last several years. Strategies here are based on educational theory, as well as extensive interviews of residents, chiefs & faculty from qualitative research conducted with @StephenHolt7 & others
3/ Why focus on report FACILITATION strategies? So many aspects of report vary from program to program...
But facilitation skills are universal!

4/ There are certainly other factors that contribute to an effective report that wonât be directly covered in these threads:
-Case type (see @Anand_88_Patel excellent
below)
-Timing
-Establishing report culture
-Attendance
-Promoting understanding/retention https://twitter.com/anand_88_patel/status/1253826104558747648

5/ The next few weeks we will cover 8 broad tips for report facilitation.
To begin: starting on time!
To begin: starting on time!
6/ START ON TIME
Reflecting on the last 10 report sessions you attended, how many started on time?

7/ START ON TIME - Seems basic. But so many reasons to start on time!

8/ START ON TIME: If catching up late learners is an issue, try:
Scribe the case
Pre-scribe if itâs a known case
Include time for case summary/problem representation
Delegate faculty/co-chief to catch up late learners
Whatâs worked for your program?

9/ START ON TIME: Reward punctual learners & prevent late learners from missing the case with a pre-case, 5 min activity.
*This can also help you start DIAGNOSING your learners

10/ START ON TIME: With those reasons and pre-case activities, this means that you should start delivering your content on time...
EVEN IF THERE IS ONLY 1 LEARNER IN YOUR ROOM

11/ START ON TIME: Keep in mind consistent lateness by a large % of learners also warrants a discussion @ the program and learner level to understand why this is happening.
- Too much work?
- Bad timing?
- Low learner buy-in?
- Room too far away from clinical work?
- Low morale
