things about hypmic that i wish people really knew about because there's a lotta misconceptions that make me really sad about these characters

1. jiro may not be academically smart but he's still talented in other ways. he's a guitarist, a soccer player and a genuinely respected person by his peers. people genuinely think he's a great guy.

2. jiro may be rough, but he cares about the girls he accept feelings for, always eating the lunchboxes they make for him because their feelings are in the food! he can't just give food away without eating some of it first.

3. jiro and saburo care about each other. they may fight a lot, but that's how siblings are. saburo confides in jiro when ichiro isn't there. jiro wouldn't take money from his little brother cause it's wrong. they literally throw themselves in front of danger for each other.

4. samatoki has actual awareness of people. he's not always irrationally angry. he was genuinely happy to fight alongside mtc at the end of the 1st drb - there was no way he could be mad, despite how jyuto thought he'd be. people of yokohama actually greet him normally.

5. jyuto's actions as a dirty cop are in some part due to heavy trauma. he lost his parents and partner both to drug crime, hence how tense he was during the enter the hypmic tracks. given chuo's corrupt system, it's no wonder he had to get dirty to climb those ranks.

6. rio saying 'you must be hungry' if people are fighting stems from his soldier days. his major taught him to respect and enjoy food. it's also why he enjoys cooking today. he got pissed when jiro asked if he was wearing soldier cosplay because of his own traumas.

7. that being said, rio is autonomous. he doesn't just follow whatever people say. he respects people's personal space because he's aware that everyone has their own issues to deal with.

8. rio's camp is an actual necessity for survival. his major was imprisoned by chuo, and it can be assumed that the rest of the squad are on the run - so it'd give him a reason to hide out in the forest. joining the drb only ensures he won't go against chuo as they can watch him.

9. ramuda isn't innocent. i've seen too much of ramuda being a pure baby when alone he talks of 'killing that bitch [ichijiku]'. this whole 'onee-san'~ thing is an act. it says in his bio that he KNOWS how he looks to people, and he's taking advantage of that.

10. gentaro is not a pathological liar. he doesn't lie for no reason. they're mood lighteners; from scenario liar, we know that he tells this scenarios because it's how his old man used to make him smile, and so he did the same for his sickly friend (and now possibly brother)

11. dice's gambling issue is an actual problem. betting it all is a problem - he's survived on an extreme lucky streak, by his bio, but if not for that, he'd literally be de@d. if nobody had his back, dice wouldn't be around anymore. you could call it an impulse control disorder.

12. dice isn't stupid either. gullible yes, but it shows that he believes in the good of his posse. he used to be distrusting of the two. did y'all forget there was also maths involved in gambling? even though there are factors of luck. he just thinks of things unconventionally

13. DICE KNOWS HOW TO MIND HIS OWN BUSINESS! He apologises to people when he asks too much. he is fine with fling posse so long as they all do as they please. he didn't want to pry into ramuda's past, and doesn't for rio's either. he respects their space.

14. jakurai cares about ramuda. he spends so many pages reminiscing on his past with tdd. he is GRATEFUL to ramuda for teaching him how to defend himself and rap. he put up with being thrown on a bungee cord with him for christ's sake - he wanted to close their distance.

15. hifumi has trauma? he's not just uwu? i dunno HOW people forgot this, but people calling him 'a funny man' because of his trauma is really upsetting. he's actively trying to work past that trauma, but this 'hahaha he's afraid of women' thing is so terrible.

16. doppo's depression is very specific. the biggest contributor is japan's society for him. he's pretty much abused by the company he works at but works because he has nowhere else to go. he still went and got help from jakurai, and is working towards recovering from depression.

17. kuko may be feral, but he's still mastered asceticism. hitoya took jyushi to his father at first, but kuko took on training jyushi because he had full capability to do it. he's a rough teacher, but his methods worked. he's actively trying to help jyushi become better.

18. rosho can actually throw hands? this guy took a swing at rei. in the past he looked way angrier than samatoki. he may look like some weed, but he's someone who cares about justice for his students. he's respected by them because he'll fight for them despite his social anxiety

19. rosho doesn't blame sasara for when he left comedy. it was entirely his choice to leave because he didn't want to hold him back. he saw that sasara had so much talent. in his mind, it was probably a way of supporting his friend.

20. big surprise, but rei uses people? he's literally a conman. sasara and rosho caught onto his lie and that's the only reason he's with them - well, apart from actual chuo convenience. that, and he's part of ramuda's creation. he let ramuda be a failed product for his benefit.

21. idk how to tell you this, but hitoya GENUINELY CARES about his team. he isn't about to get rid of jyushi cause he's annoying; he took jyushi to the temple because he KNEW they'd be a better help than him - he wasn't just dumping a load off.
