Ok, my advice to people trying to break into the industry, use your time to:-
- Learn skills you don't even know you need - free videos, online courses - coding, digital marketing, excel, photoshop, canva, creating presentations, general work skills as well as publishing specific

Sorry, should have said this to start with
- Don't take this personally
- Focus on earning a living however you can (& enjoying your life)
- With any time/energy left over, learn new skills (previous tweet), see where the opportunities are in the new world order, and hustle

One thing I would certainly recommend you do (if you haven't done this at university), is consider self publishing a book, learn how to use KDP and other platforms - get proficient and it is something you could offer as a service immediately.
Along the same lines, learn how to build a website using Wordpress, Wix, Squarespace, etc.
- use your website and social media to share your love of books, think what your niche is - Skandi crime, translated poetry, American lit from the 60s, being niche is good.

Thinking about the new world order - learn how to use Zoom, webinars, Facebook live, editing videos, Microsoft Teams (is that what it's called?). Sign up for free online events - watch and learn - how can you improve on them?
Audiobooks and ebooks will continue to rise - learn everything you can about making them (check out ACX) and marketing them. Number of self published authors will continue to rise - what are their needs, how can you help them? I also see more trad authors switching too.
Also, keep up with what is going on in the industry, resources: @thebookseller @BookMachine @Soc_of_Authors @IndieAuthorALLI @bestsellerxp @thecreativepenn @ReedsyHQ - sign up for all their free newsletters. And listen to lots of book podcasts, list here https://theempoweredauthor.com/lounge-blog/top-book-podcasts?rq=podcast
If you follow the news, look for the opportunities - something new has launched - email them and say you think their new venture is amazing and are they looking for someone to help them etc etc Ditto if you see someone tweet. Put yourself in front of opportunities.
I could go on, and I might later. But hope that's helpful for anyone trying to get into publishing. Big love. x
