Really not looking forward to the pieces on COVID-19 for the next decade that will ignore Global South responses and when they don’t, will probs collapse everything into how democracies vs ‘authoritarian states’ handled the crisis.

Although the response has been stronger and faster in many countries with weaker health infrastructures and fewer resources, this doesn’t seem to seep into the ‘global picture’ and when it does, we are told said countries are lying about numbers.

Between lying about numbers, being assumed incompetent and being ‘authoritarian’ the Global South is erased entirely & all success stories come from Europe (Germany) or East Asia (but only South Korea).

The political system of a country is more than an either/or between democracy/authoritarianism (two highly critiicsied categories from the Cold War btw) & is not all there is to say about the Global South.
