I thought I'd share some pointers on internal & external engagement for this period (some even Post- Covid)
This is mostly for people who run or work for Non-profits and small businesses, especially which aren't operating at full capacity at the moment (or not at all☹)
This is an opinion based on my experience with @40days_40smiles
and @HouseOfPendaUg + my general thoughts. Some pointers might be applicable to you while others won't be.
You can pick what works and tweak according to your specific needs or throw the whole thing away🤷🏾‍♀️
Charity begins at home.
How's the team? Check on their physical and mental wellbeing. Listen if they're willing to talk or connect them to a professional.
(Direct) Supervisors can check in on an individual basis, regularly and then more general check ins for the wider team.
Continue to schedule meetings; not too many to exhaust everyone/encourage monotony but also not too few as to lose track of the organisation's work, progress reports etc
Provide support in form of airtime/data if you can, especially if you work with volunteers/people who don't have (regular) income streams. It'll help them keep updated and involved.

If you can afford it, food, groceries, medical support for your team(s) will go a long way.
Organise fun team activities: There are several apps for quiz or games like otyo from @SoooManyStories now on Play store (kudos🤗) or
@getkahoot. Work with whatever is most accessible/convenient.

Give rewards/prizes where possible.
Make time to simply have fun together.
Engage beneficiaries: Reach out to them and find out how they are doing, help out where possible even if it's out of your usual scope of work.
We work with schools which are no longer in session but we raised money to provide food for their families as we await normalcy.
Check in with donors/supporters/clients to simply find out how they are.
If you're in the Non profit space where you are often 'asking' this is a good time to just say hello & thank you.
The response our teams received from supporters of both establishments is gratifying.
Generate useful content for your pages or at least share positive vibes😊
Take the time to update your website.
Whether you are currently working, making deliveries or not, let your clients know even before they ask so that they can plan accordingly.
Which information are you putting up? Well, perhaps you sell clothes but can't right now; you can share tips on decluttering one's wardrobe, pairing outfits etc
Restaurant closed? No deliveries? (Or fewer than usual?) how about simple recipes for your clients?
Do an assessment of your business.
Innovate/improvise/adapt as much as you can.
What can you (still) do with the resources available to you?
We started to do research on online quiz options when we realised we couldn't host #4040Night the regular way.
We took time to research, seek advice from those more exposed/knowledgeable than us, engage volunteers, supporters and partners; weigh the pros and cons of different platforms and put in as much time as possible for preparation.
#4040Night online was birthed 😀
(Maintain) Transparency.
Things will not always go as planned (Hello 2020😏) but you need to own every mistake.
Be as open about your failures as you are about your successes.
Don't leave people guessing for too long.
Extend compassion to yourselves as well. 🌞
Even after multiple trials done to prep for the event, we still had a major glitch on D-day. I was hyperventilating when it happened. Between managing my own emotions, trying to be a good leader, deciding on the 'right' solution and ensuring the 'show goes on,' it was a lot...
Thankfully, all the awesome team leaders were on deck to 'fix it' fast.
We ensured that we came clean on what went wrong, apologised & worked on an 'alternative' as soon as possible. In the end, most of the feedback from participants was on what went right. It meant a great deal.
Encourage feedback and use it wherever possible.
We've received tonnes of great feedback which we are now incorporating. Some of it can't be implemented in the short term or with the available resources but hearing from the very people we create for is everything.
Lastly, too much is happening too rapidly, or slowly depending on context.
Nothing could have prepared you for any of it.

Be kind to yourself
Forgive yourself
Listen to your body/spirit
Rest
Refuel
Reset
Rediscover your why
Did I say REST?

You are doing amazing🤗
