I feel like there's an onus on all of us to reject egocentric way of forming opinions about the world. You can't see the inherent and widespread harms of something and then endorse it solely because you feel like it didn't harm you personally.
This applies to anything from children being hit to teenagers who were preyed on by adults. Even if there isn't an onus on us to interrogate our experiences, there's an onus for us not to perpetuate harmful norms based on them.
We can't tell people how to feel about situations where they were harmed or taken advantage of when they were vulnerable. But we can definitely expect them, as adults & powetful people today, to not cosign practices in society that are harming more vulnerable children right now.
