I see people are banging on about national service again. The zombie idea that would not die. We've had 12 years of peacetime National Service in the whole history of the UK, ever, yet somehow it is this totemic "cure all" for whatever you think is wrong with the younglings today

Nobody under the age of 81 in this country has ever done National Service

Also the Teddy Boy knife fights and riots and Rock'n'Roll started while National Service was still going on so it empirically and provably doesn't stop kids getting into trouble you nostalgic old wazzcocks for a time that never was
