i feel like these programs are kind of a greay area? like while they have many cons for both people who are in them and who are not, they also have many pros for both sides. https://twitter.com/socializm_/status/1254441065077145600
like it stigmatises both groups, one as "ur not special so dont bother" and other as "ur special so u have to be extraordinary" kinda thing. but it also gives the "gifted kids" (i donr really like that words but idk enough about english to try and say anything else) +++
a place to meet and befriend people who are alike them in seas of "normal" kids. of course, the system I'm talking about is not about grades but about more psychological matters (that's how the system in turkey works so thats the only one i know of).
also ngl i think being in the same class as a "gifted" kid is p annoying even tho they've been told they're that way or not. I've been told I'm a pretty annoying person to learn next to a lot of times
anyways like i said, i find it to be kind of a tricky situation. it's also a situation where trying to understand the other side is pretty hard because of the lack of knowledge about what goes on in each side (usually. or at least that's I've experienced)
also the system in my country is slightly different (and pretty corrupted as of now but that's a talk for another day) so i cant really talk for everyone here. this thread is just based on my experiences (and my cousin's constant scolding about how stupid our program is).
