Are newsrooms already reporting on the number of unemployed doctors in RSA, where shortages are, where Cuban doctors will be deployed & housed & most NB, the value of the "help." In return, Cuba receives cash & supplies. How much? How is it admnistered? Do the doctors have a say?
Help is always welcomed but you are journalists. You job is not only to tell us what the government says. Or to report "Cuban doctors have arrived." Have you had reaction from SA health workers? Do they have supplies they need? And Cuban doctors? How are they picked for exchange?
Cuban doctors are renowned. This is the time for solidarity. Read my tweets carefully. I'm NOT saying there is no need for deployment. I'm saying a journalist's job is to go beyond "They have arrived and this party is here to meet them." Tell us where, how, why, implications etc
RSA doctors are equally renowned. International doctors come here to study many areas of medicine. Comprehension is key. I'm addressing journalists, NOT denouncing support. A credible report SHOULD have info on global doctor exchanges, how much is exchanged, distributed etc
PS...Whoever responds to me with "government already said..." has proven my point. The media's job is NOT just to tell you what the government says. The fact that what government says is the ONLY info you can refer to proves my point. I'm off. You are welcome to stay on my TL🤣
