[Thread] Rand Fishkin's 8 key thoughts on values, transparency & company building.
@randfish

1. Transparency isn’t the same as honesty. Honesty is saying only things that are true. Transparency is revealing even the most uncomfortable truths.
2. Transparency can’t just be a tactic, though. It has to be a core value that’s consistently followed. If you openly share some things, but hide others, credibility will suffer.
3. Even after people leave, what they say about you and your trustworthiness will affect basic business functions like recruiting, sales, branding, and bizdev for decades to come.
4. We should be proud, not embarrassed, by what and how we communicate, even when the doors are closed.
5. Build your expertise before you build your network, and build your network before you build your company.
6. They’re not core values if you’re willing to sacrifice them in exchange for money.
7. Accountability without the means to control it is a recipe for frustration and disaster.
8. Feelings are not facts. We have the power to change the ways we react and the way things make us feel.
