Don’t forget about the many many Easterners that got displaced because they didn’t want him. They didn‘t kill everyone (even though they would‘ve done it if they could). https://twitter.com/zakariamkm/status/1254531387224440834
I agree with this to to some extent BUT there’s unfortunately many people, especially from the West, that take this out of context and blame solely Easterners for this war.
I‘m originally from Benghazi but I’ve lived in Tripoli before the Karama Operation started. I‘ve been
there for a visit in summer 2014. It was very frightening. My family and my relatives were scared for our lives as we were openly opposing Hifter/Haftar. We went back to Tripoli and less than two months later my relatives fled to Tripoli, as did many other Easterners. While I was
in Tripoli, I’ve heard of the deaths of many people my family knew, including some of my childhood friends. While all of this was going on, I and many other Easterners have faced all types of racism here in Tripoli. "Easterners are crowding our city, why can’t they go back?"
"Haftar is fighting against terrorism, why are you against it? Go back."
These are examples of the things people have said to me.
Many Easterners have lived in spacious properties back home and are now living in tiny, unrenovated apartments. Their belongings and properties in
Benghazi have been stolen from them and until this day they’re dealing with these major materialistic losses (which also has an impact on one‘s mental health).
After the war in the East was "over" I‘ve had people "congratulating" me on the success of Karama. And I have been asked - yet again - when I and my fellow Easterners would go back.
There‘s different types of people here in the West, that I myself have met.
There’s the ones who have always been pro Karama and still are.
The ones that didn’t care about what happened in the East but now that they’re facing the same situation, they do.
And the ones who have
always been against it. And just as we shouldn’t lump all Westerners together and label them as racist or pro Karama or whatever, we also shouldn’t do the same to Easterners.
There are many people in the East that realized that Karama was a big mistake. Just as there are
now Westerners who were pro Karama at first and after seeing Hifter/Haftar‘s real face and what crimes he’s capable of doing are now anti.
The only difference is that some of these Easterners are too afraid to speak up, as we all know what fate awaits them if they do (Seham Sergewa case).
I got carried away in writing this thread and kind of got off topic but I’ve been wanting to address this before as I’ve been
seeing a lot of racism and hate against Easterners on the tl lately.
