sat and listened to BROCKHAMPTON’s entire discography. SATURATION I, II, & III. all in order. then i listened to iridescence and GINGER... honestly i can say after the latter 2 albums, i’m sincerely glad that Ameer is no longer in the band. allegations aside, i’m glad he’s gone.
as essential as i thought he was, i realized a few things. i realized the band has continued to improve and mature lyrically since he departed.
to start, the only real thing he brought to the band was a street aspect. which in all honesty, i think was becoming overused considering there were 3 entire albums released in 1 year. the only sone where i truly thought it was fitting and necessary was HEAT.
out of 3 albums i only felt Ameer’s verses in a handful of songs period. lyrically i will say he puts together a really good verse and hit lines definitely had moments where they hit hard and delivery was on point. i like his wordplay.
however as part of BROCKHAMPTON, i feel he just isn’t needed and never really was. even discussing mental health. i feel members like Kevin, Joba,
Dom, and Matt articulate it better. they put together better verses and handle the topic better and describe certain things best.
Dom, and Matt articulate it better. they put together better verses and handle the topic better and describe certain things best.
Dom is exceptionally poetic with it, and his verses in songs like THUG LIFE and MILK are absolutely proof of that. he’s easily one of the most talented members of the band, and lyrically probably the most clever and articulate, specifically with this topic.
aside from that, Ameer’s vocals were never exciting or versatile. mostly sounded the same in any verse he laid and again, the only exception for me being HEAT. i can’t sit and say he’s an essential part of the group anymore.
bearface is the singer. Dom is the most poetic. Kevin talks about identity best. Matt has the most versatile vocals. Joba puts together hard hitting verses with heavy delivery.
i will also note that Joba stepped up big time in terms of putting verses on songs after Ameer’s was kicked out of BH and i appreciate how much slack he picked up to make their albums complete since then.
overall, BROCKHAMPTON doesn’t need Ameer. and while SATURATION will always be part of their history, they have outdone themselves with their last 2 albums and i rank them higher in general than the SATURATION trilogy and they did it without him. i believe in BROCKHAMPTON.
they are better now than they have ever been. Ameer needed to go for other reasons, and this thread is strictly me saying this from a musical perspective as to why they would have been fine with or without him and how they are continuing to prosper.
i don’t know that anyone will even bother to read or acknowledge this thread at all, probably not. but to end it, this is strictly my opinion and no disrespect to anyone who disagrees with what i’ve said. this is my opinion, and you’re entitled to yours. goodnight
