I remember summer of 2014. Massive floods in Srinagar. Tens of thousands of people trapped. I was running SpiceJet then and Giorgio De Roni was running GoAir. We were both side by side at adjacent counters at SXR airport, with massive crowds trying to get on flights. 1/n
I had been trying to get as many people onto SG flights as I could, whether they had a ticket on us or not, as long as they had a ticket on some airline. Giorgio had just come in from the ramp, after helping load bags. We agreed to accept any pax regardless of booking 2/n
There were people crying, pleading to get on flights. It was like a wartime evacuation situation. We took evacuees on even without bookings, and flew them out. Simply took the next person in line. And these are two airlines that are privately owned, no taxpayer assistance. 3/n
And today we are being told here by people who follow aviation, after serving the country, paying taxes, and now being hit by a pandemic and grounded indefinitely, "too bad, so sad. You should have planned for an indefinite grounding. Don't expect any govt assistance". 4/4
