Today 14th Baisakh, 1000s of armed Muslims attacked Hindu residents of Mechuabazar(Chitpur) at peak of 1926 riots(45 days long). 40 Hindu Bengali men resisted & defeated them with only sticks under the leadership of Chandrakanta Deb & Jatindranath Sur.

Chandrakanta Deb was from Ibrahimpur village, Comilla. He was first person to resist rioters with a stick. Jatindranath was the 2nd person. He hailed from the Kulsi village, Bardhaman. Both died by the police fire.

Chandrakanta had a 10 year old brother & mother in his family.

Jatindranath was newly married, widowed mother & two small brothers.

Both lost their father earlier on life. Their role is comparable to what Gopal pantha did on a large scale 20 years later.

94 years ago people took out a possession & Kolkata showered their bodies with flower

It is indeed shameful that today we don't even know about 1926 riots (which razed on Kolkata, Dhaka, Pabna & Kharagpur) let alone the sacrifices of these brave men. A belated tribute nonetheless
