If the world as we know it has indeed ended, let's at least get the next one right:
Given IT people no longer need to be based in a particular city to deliver their work, stop constructing more buildings in cities.
Decentralise. Spread the workforce around (may not apply to factories or other industries) - encourage use of bicycles to commute.
Change the way productivity is measured. Number and quality of deliverables delivered within the deadline instead of number of hours spent.
Teaching to evolve and be more effective in a learn-from-home environment.
No more 40 hour work weeks. Make it 25-30. Share the work among more people so more people get paid -
- since all will be WFH, from different cities and probably the coat of living will be lower plus schools may not ask for a lot of "development fees", lower pay might not affect the standard of living (which in itself would have changed a lot).
I would move to #Coimbatore in a heartbeat. A small house close to Marudamalai. Window open panna that gorgeous hill on one side, Ooty at a distance on one side, hills near Walayar at a distance on one side.
Evening aana kaalan saapda poiralaam.
