there's some texts which i cannot wait to become a high school English teacher to teach. Here's a few of the most queer ones, some paired with shorter theoretical and poetic texts that shed light on them: #pairedtexts 1/4
N.K. Jemisin's The Effluent Engine, with Hartman's Intro to Wayward Lives Beautiful Experiments: how many Black queer women's innovations were effectively erased from history by the archive? these two texts try to reimagine history through the eyes of these women 2/4
Bechdel's Fun Home, paired with the poems of Adrienne Rich: How do queer people learn to exist and love each other when they live in the shadow of death? These two texts can provide students with a space to grapple with these questions from two very different angles. 3/4
Kamatani's Our Dreams at Dusk, w/ Serano's Whipping Girl: growing up, i couldn't have imagined seeing trans characters depicted in a manga with such care. in convo w/ Serano's theory of transmisogyny, ODAD could help kids build liberatory knowledge about gender & identity. 4/4
