i explained the karen meme to my mom (named karen) and she unexpectedly replied "oh, i think of those 'id like to speak to a manager' type folks as janets." she then specified that "janets" did not include janet jackson who should have slapped justin timberlake in superbowl 2005

my mom also said that the karen meme gave her flashbacks to both her time working at the Harris Teeter deli and going to PTA meetings when we were in middle school

i've def seen my mom go full karen, but only once: when my slumlord from sophomore year of college wouldn't let me out of my lease 1 mo early and she basically gave him the what for. i guess my point is we need to recruit the karens to tenant advocacy

i fully expected my mom to get offended by the karen thing but instead this has confirmed my belief that the karen meme is not offensive to anyone who has worked extensively in a service industry (and that includes white boomers named karen like my mom)
