okay I can't enjoy my taco until I tell #MedTwitter about what Eugene Gu created during Covid Pandemic.

Gu teamed up with Bhargav Raman to start a company called "CoolQuits". The premise is to use telehealth to have "visits" that combine smoking cessation with covid tests.

1/
So why would @eugenegu who btw has NOT completed residency, be breaking the public's trust with a new scheme for smoking cessation when he has literally never cared about it before?

http://www.coolquit.com

2/
I remember learning about reimbursement for smoking cessation counseling visits. Primary care docs get paid by insurance companies extra for talking about smoking cessation (makes sense because extra time spent with patient).

3/
Smoking cessation is also something that is covered under TeleHealth visits pre-covid.

So by using smoking cessation strategies AND covid telehealth, he can double-up on medicare reimbursement.

4/
@twittersupport @twitter how many times do we have to report this guy for practicing outside of his scope of practice? He is NOT a board-certified physician!!!!!!!

He is doing this CoolQuit bull-crap as a get rich quick scheme. Investigate @eugenegu now!

5/
The quotes he uses on the website are luring patients into something that he can't even help them with. He does NOT have hospital admitting privileges. This is NOT okay.

6/
He also attacks MedTwitter for bullying him. in bio states that he " is concerned about the level of bullying, even by many doctors, that occurs. Finding a balance between using the positive aspects of social media to help patients while resisting the unruly mob" ...

7/
So I did an experiment. I signed up using a fake name and fake email and fake burner phone number. To see exactly what "patients" were being asked.

8/
Series of 30 questions mostly about covid symptoms.
Again these are the questions that prospective patients, many of him desperate to find ACTUAL BOARD-CERTIFIED doctors are being asked on what looks like a sham website.

9/
The best was after completing this stating I didn't have health insurance I get this pop-up message: "Due to the high volume of requests during Coronavirus pandemic, we cannot guarantee that we will respond to everyone who has submitted app given limited staff."

10/
It's been 7 hours now. I said I was basically dying of covid on the app. NO RESPONSE.

So I just wanna be clear about something: can the @NYTHealth @nytimes @maddow @CDCgov @bermaninstitute @HopkinsMedicine PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS?!

11/
Eugene Gu is a huge menace. He does not have board expertise to deal with smoking cessation. he is not board certified at all. @Twitter and @TwitterSupport need to seriously remove his check mark. He has 400,000 followers and IS NOT A MEDICAL EXPERT.

12/
Essentially what Gu is doing is:
1) Falsely claiming expertise
2) Getting double pay to sign vulnerable patients up for smoking cessation and Covid services
3) Running a company get-rich quick style to get insurance compensation for tele-health trend
4) Harm

13/
Okay I am gonna eat my taco now in peace. PLEASE TAG EVERYONE. Patients are being harmed here. This is not a joke. It's a sham.

He cannot state he can get back to people dying of covid. He hasn't even responded to me and it's been 7 hours.
Also just wanna end this by saying I am a med student. I can't answer the legal implications of this. But it seemed really really fishy to me and like a scam. And I am by no means an expert. SO MedTwitter do your thing.

@Sarah_Mojarad
(Oh also, I do NOT have any symptoms of Covid. I would not ever lie about my symptoms unless it was to literally bring Eugene Gu's sham a website down. Thank you for those who DM'd asking. Sorry I should have said in the thread. I am healthy.)
Today's update. I coudn't figure out why he kept popping up in my high school feeds from Minnesota. Then I realized he went on @kare11. This is very scary. Read the post. https://twitter.com/londyloo/status/1254834477538238464?s=20
