Ok... buckle up, have I got a thread for you on rage inducing photos!
Our story begins earlier today and this "shocking" photo of people allegedly not social distancing at Bournemouth beach

I saw this shared a few times, including in the most treacherous of newspapers.
People were predictably (and arguably, seemingly fairly) outraged... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8258383/More-people-leave-homes-flock-DIY-stores-parks-despite-Covid-19-lockdown.html

But, something bugged me about this photo. And I couldn't put my finger on it.
Fast forward to 10 minutes ago when I couldn't sleep, and it hit me.
This is either heavily edited, or some clever depth of field photography.
Either way it's hugely deceiving.

The 40ish (I counted) people in this photo are spread out over at least half a kilometer!!
I know this, because I run this stretch of the beach A LOT. Most recently when training for the marathon I should have been running today.
Let me take you on a little tour...

The angle tells me the photo was taken from the edge of the pier, I recognise it as I've taken god knows how many shots from this spot.
And finally the West cliff lift is the bit sticking out (blurry as Street view ended by the beach huts)
Those of you that are local will already be screaming at your phone in anger.
Sorry about that.
This is the distance covered on the photos I've just shown you

Fellow runners I'm sure can also verify it's half a kilometer as it's a common turning point if you want to add an extra kilometer onto the 5k it is from pier to pier.
And here's all those landmarks in the one original "outrage" photo.
So to reiterate, and why I think I couldn't sleep... those 40 people are split across half a kilometer.
***Or to put it another way, if they were stood in a line, they'd still be 12.5m apart***

So yes, be outraged... that someone is misrepresenting how busy it is in photos to create anger.
Fin.
(Hopefully can sleep now I got that out)

@Bournemouthecho is this your photo, that's been syndicated? If so you have some explaining to do! If not, you need to be pushing back against this misrepresentation of our area!
Here's how the photo trickery is done: https://twitter.com/KiksyUK/status/1254658081147039746?s=19
And here's a shot I took further to the right of the location shown, you can see how far the life guard hut is
