I GOT THE RAWS I'm admittedly bad at Japanese (like... Please someone fluent back me up here) but I have something to say
I think, imo, the entire point of the chapter is that Atsumu finally got what Kita was trying to say about the slogan
I think, imo, the entire point of the chapter is that Atsumu finally got what Kita was trying to say about the slogan
He initially talks about how his captain used to say that he disliked the meaning of the slogan, and then proceeds to talk about how he likes it himself (俺は好きやけど)
He uses the contrasting marker けど
He uses the contrasting marker けど
And goes into how in that moment he thinks he understands the feeling a bit better now (今はちょびっとわかる気イがする)
He says he understands the "feeling" (気) which I think points to Kita's feeling about the slogan rather than the meaning, else he would have used (意味)

He then says (バレーボールなんか思い出なんか1個もない)
Which basically says "in volleyball, there is no such thing as having 1 (piece) of memories"
And this is where it gets irritating hahaha Japan has a counter system where everything has its own VERY specific counter

And this is where it gets irritating hahaha Japan has a counter system where everything has its own VERY specific counter
And the use of 1個, which is the general counter for small objects, for the abstract notion of "feeling", is weird to me. If he wanted to say "There's no such thing as memories" he would've gone directly to say "思い出はない" without the counter.
In my opinion he is saying that memories aren't something that you can count in terms of little pieces (1個)--
Because everything is here (ぜんぶはここにあんえん)
Everything is his muscle.
You can't count memories, because memories all merge into one--his entire being.

And I think this is a prettier take than what viz came up with, which isn't wrong per se, it's just not as nuanced imo? Because in viz's reading we have Atsumu as flippant, but in the raws he comes off more acknowledging of Kita's POV--a sign of character growth.
Also I think someone with better grasp of Japanese than a lower-intermediate student like me should take their stab at this LMAO the viz translator holds his job for a reason he probably has n1 and ive been too lazy to take n4 for years. . So. Ye.
Either way, I think Atsumu Miya is absolutely lovely!!!
+1 reading directly from the raws also beautifully just circles it to the time Kita said that, while he never got volleyball glory, at least he built muscle.

+2 (important) invalidates my whole ki vs imi point! https://twitter.com/kacchaou/status/1254599198562906112
+3 sometimes you gotta call a friend who's fluent in japanese to help you out (thank you @kacchaou!)
