Good evening and welcome to Week 5 of Civil War Memory 101. Tonight we are going to discuss chapter 5 in @CarrieJanney's "Remembering the Civil War" which focuses on the Lost Cause. https://muse.jhu.edu/chapter/1724543  #CWM101 #twitterstorians
As always I will continue this thread by posting a series of numbered questions/comments. You can respond to me or anyone else taking part in this discussion. Please remember to use the hashtag #CWM101 so that your comments appear in searches after tonight.
A quick reminder that Dr. Janney will discuss her new book project on the demobilization of Lee's army after Appomattox with @InkedHistorian and @PeterCarmicha15 on Facebook Live tomorrow evening at 7pm. #CWM101 https://www.facebook.com/events/251168099616021/
Thanks again to all of you who are taking time out of your weekend to be with us tonight. This should be an interesting discussion.

OK, let's get started. #CWM101
Quick observation: We often hear that while the US won the war, the Confederacy won the peace, which I take to mean that the Confederacy/South won the memory war. We've read enough now to appreciate that this is an oversimplification of the evolution of memory of the war. #CW101
2. FYI, @CarrieJanney is once again joining us tonight. Thank you.
