i was thinking how mob tends to take advice that reigen gives him (often at least partially in bullshit mode) and offers it to other people wholeheartedly and how that's his way of saving people. mob is able to save people by picking out the truth in reigen's bullshit.
in particular, i was thinking about this in relation to mob offering to be serizawa's friend and why that worked. what reigen offered mob when mob was alone and suffering the same way as serizawa was "i'll show you how to use your powers".
that's exactly what touichirou offered too, but that's not what worked for serizawa. interestingly, it's not what reigen ultimately GIVES to mob either. reigen has no clue wtf he's doing re: psychic powers.
instead, i think when mob offers "i'll be your friend" that's the real thing reigen gave him back when they first met, the honest gift under his bullshit phrasing. this mirroring of touichirou vs mob aligns perfectly with what reigen SAYS to mob vs what he actually winds up being
it's interesting. the parallels between touichirou and reigen are obvious in that part of the show/manga but i hadn't thought about the parallels between reigen and a maturing mob. i think reigen completely accidentally teaches mob how to rescue people.
funnily, mob at the beginning of the manga wants to be popular the same as reigen wants to "become somebody" heh. i think they want it for the same reason: they're lonely. and what they both find instead is friendship, starting with each other. they are each other's first friends
i thought this up on the toilet u-u
