Thread on #Cardinals OT Josh Jones
Josh Jones was a beast pass blocker in college. According to @PFF in 2019, Jone only allow 2 pressures on 325 pass blocking snaps.
And the film checks out.

Really like his hands in pass protection. Once he latches on, he loves to just bury pass rushers.
Jones played nearly a perfect game against OU. I don't think I saw a single bad rep. Here is one against Neville Gallimore, another top prospect.
Notice how he is left alone with Gallimore and gives up zero ground.

Despite his poor combine performance, I thought Jones moved pretty well on film.
Jones looks fluid out in space. He does a great job of staying square to his defender and reaching his block.

This is a pretty impressive reach block as he travels all the way from the back end to the play side right off the snap to block Kenneth Murray. He looks quick and fluid out of his stance and gets to his spot in a hurry.
Great hand technique here. Jones slaps the edge rusher's hands down, causing them to lose balance. Then he simply presses down on the defender's shoulder to finish the play.
On this play, Jones identifies and picks up the corner blitz. He then just drives the corner into the endzone.
I love how Jones is able to sustain his blocks in the second level. He essentially erases one defender from making the stop.
Now one "knock" that's not really a knock to Josh Jones' film is that he didn't go up against any premier pass rushers. He rarely saw any edge rushers with advance pass rushing plans and moves/counters.
However on this play, he demonstrates the ability to mirror back inside.

Now compared to the top 4 tackles, I wouldn't say Jones is as powerful at the point of attack, but he still has more than enough power to blow defenders back and move people in the run game.
On this play, the LB gets a 5 yard running start to gain full speed and momentum as he gets to Jones, but Jones is able to stonewall the defender. He then just turns and pancakes the defender. I love how he finishes the play here.
Watch how Jones blows the defender back to create the alley way for his RB.
Off the snap, Jones gets to the defenders outside shoulder and then just drives the defender into the ground.
Really nice awareness and quickness to pick up the blitzing LB to the outside here.
Hard to find a ton of negatives in his film because he was just so dominant against his competition. Especially in pass protection, he looked flawless because he wasn't going up against any real NFL talent.
I think like all of the tackle prospects, other than Wills. He could use some polishing in his footwork. Instead of getting nice balanced and choppy sets, he kind of does a gallop when he needs to reach for speed.
But overall, I love the athleticism and pass protection he brings for a young QB like Kyler Murray. Not sure if he can make the transition to right tackle immediately, given our quarantine circumstances, but I imagine he will be the starting right tackle very soon.
