Interesting Question. Place name suffix -डीह ḍīh (= upland, a village) which is commonly available in various place names in UP, Bihar, Odisha,, Jharkhand, MP etc. is perhaps related to Sanskrit dehī देही (mound, rampart). https://twitter.com/ImKundanKrishna/status/1253975405540839425
As evident in references in Rigveda, these dehī > -Dih sites represent former inhabited settlements which were higher than their neighboring areas & were protected by earthworks or dikes.
Not to forget that various "Dih" bearing sites in the famous Sanchi Buddhist complex in MP, are also locally known as mounds.
