I'm from Rhode Island. My grandmother worked as a secretary in the finance office at Brown. Locals resent Brown, especially students. I've always been ambivalent.
Now imagine some Brown students hack the app and have a big rager. An infection cluster results. Students overwhelm the Providence hospitals and now my elderly elatives can't access the medical services, virus or not, that they need.
It's college decision time and every president wants to justify that hefty price tag to parents. Unfortunately, it will be the local community who pays for it.
I keep thinking about my grandmother who worked in an office at Brown until her retirement and who had breast cancer. How would this plan have put her life at risk? And what about the health and safety of the dining service workers and the cleaners?
Love my home state of Rhode Island, but we are a pretty litigious bunch. Lawyers will be lining up to take on these cases, and public support will be right behind them. Doesn't look good for Brown if this plan is put into action.
