In 2018 when I was writing my prolactin & parental care review for Hormones and Behavior, I was trying to summarize the brain areas which express prolactin receptors in birds. One of the most highly "papers" describing this in juncos was actually just a SfN abstract from 1992!!
So I emailed the lead author (Pierre Deviche)asking if he still had the data that I could look at. Well, that’s a big ask considering it was from 1992… Eventually he got back to me and said he found the FLOPPY DISK with the data on it, and somehow pulled off the data to give me.
If this was such a highly cited abstract surely people (including myself) want that data out there! So I asked how he felt about it writing up as a paper and he was on board! Many month of digging up old slides and converting archaic files types into excel files and here we are!
Moral of the story: Publish your data, because somebody, somewhere, will want it!

And if you don’t, you’ll be hunted down 30 years later for it!! 😁😁
