this is a thread of my favourite lesbian poems written by sapphic artists for #LesbianVisibilityDay
"Curving arms, encircling a world of love,
You! Stirring the depths of passionate desire!" –Alice Moore Dunbar-Nelson
"And I knew when I entered her I was
high wind in her forests hollow" –Audre Lorde
"She stands there, patient, nerve with inner might,
Indomitable in her feebleness,
Her face and will athirst against the light." –Christina Rossetti
"She loves me all that she can,
And her ways to my ways resign;
But she was not made for any man,
And she never will be all mine." –Edna St. Vincent Millay
"The shooting stars in your black hair
in bright formation
are flocking where,
so straight, so soon?
– Come, let me wash it in this big tin basin,
battered and shiny like the moon." –Elizabeth Bishop
"I have brought her, laughing,
To my quietly dreaming garden.
For what will be done there
I ask no man pardon." –Elsa Gidlow
"Rowing in Eden –
Ah, the sea!
Might I moor – Tonight –
In thee!" –Emily Dickinson
"I spilt the dew –
But took the morn, –
I chose this single star
From out the wide night's numbers –
Sue – forevermore!" –Emily Dickinson
"Aider, why aider why whow, whow stop touch, aider whow, aider stop the muncher, muncher munchers." –Gertrude Stein, in Objects from Tender Buttons.
just a lil explanation for that one, as a treat... because gertrude stein is absolutely cryptic....

aider would be a play on words between ada (alice, her lover's nickname) and aid her [to orgasm]
"Two sprouting breasts
Round and sweet
invite my hungry mouth to eat." –Isadora Duncan, to Mercedes de Acosta
"These be two
Country women.
What a size!" –Katherine Mansfield
"The full-sailed rising of you body's sweep
–Adrift and safe on joy's last tidal wave–
Will toss you on the silver sands of sleep,
Forgetful of the ecstasy you gave." –Natalie Barney
"How flower-like are the smiling lips that so many have desired,
Curled lips that love's long kisses have left a little tired." –Olive Custance
"The white hands of my lady's maid
Move deftly through the shining hair!
How my heart falters half afraid
Lest they should hurt a thing so fair
As my sweet lady's head!
And how I wish that I stood there
Twisting the strands instead!" –Olive Custance
"When i make love to you
i try
with each stroke of my tongue
to say i love you
to tease i love you
to hammer i love you
to melt i love you" –Pat Parker
"In your white voluptuousness my desire rests,
Swooning, refusing itself the kisses of you lips." –Renée Vivien
i'll only putting this renée vivien one or else i might just quote her entire work
