I want mosques to open their facilities during the COVID 19 pandemic.

This pandemic has challenged our communities in so many ways. Tensions are high and possibly at the brink of boiling over. Polarising views on religious and social practices have provided a means for needless arguments between people at a time we should be united.
It is my view that the Muslim community have a responsibility to make effort not only to preserve life, but to actively fight against that which threatens it.
So I’ve done some thinking, and I’ll say that I personally do not have the resources to make this happen but it is my intention and hope that this reaches someone who does.
There are many places of worship (I will focus on mosques but it includes others) which are fortunate enough to have auxiliary facilities and buildings attached to their houses of worship but not used specifically for that purpose, rather for social gatherings and events.
And taking into consideration the risk evaluated strategy our government has adopted along with the assumption that, in an ideal world, each decreasing stage would last for at least 2 weeks.
It would be safe to say that these auxiliary spaces to the houses of worship would not be in use for at least 8 weeks (levels 4 to 1) for public recreational events.
Could we then not offer up these spaces to aid government in providing testing, feeding, sheltering facilities in the meantime?
I speak under correction, but many religious houses are not state owned. So it would need to come from those responsible for these spaces.

I call on the Mosques of South Africa, to open the doors of their facilities, their venue halls (not necessarily the Masjid itself) to help our government fight this virus, if they have not offered up these spaces already.
It’s an opportunity for us to make a difference.
